Hi, my 2008 XF's windscreen washer's finally stopped working, it gave a dribble, now nothing and you can no longer hear the pump. The headlight washers still work.

Does anyone have an idea of what the replacement is, there seems to be many different versions available? Many thanksHey,

i would think these are the same for years, so going by make/model/year/engine should be enough? or why not ask main stealers for part no? they will look by VIN i would think

Before you go about replacing the pump, clean it first. You’d be surprised how much gunk clogs up both the motor and the mesh screen.

Relatively easy to get to, by removing the plastic mudguard (front driver’s side), and remember to have a big bucket ready when you pull out the motor assembly! I’ve cleaned mine twice n 10 years, and yet I try to avoid screen wash (the dealer adds it in). Once cleaned out, also clean the hoses to each spray head on the wiper arms: a foot pump and a nozzle will do the trick.

Quite likely. BUt do remember to clear the hoses and nozzles! The new pumps have no filter mesh, which may be a problem down the track. Also worth considering to try to clean the whole plastic reservoir with a pressure washer, but i found the sludge won’t budge especially near the top where the water level sits most of the time.

Good point: it won't be too difficult to snip the wires and add in a connector (I've done that recently).

Possibly - if the wires are conducting water, they may well have turned black with oxidation (but you'd have to strip the plastic shielding to see this). Or you can check the end of the wiring loom, where it enters the BCM, and look for corrosion and/or water damage.

I'd do it anyway, since it's a 10-minute job if you have some inline connectors. I faffed about with some eBay connectors which were pretty rubbing, so ended up using some regular inline connectors. That's considered good enough in my book!

Would I have a load of symptoms if my loom were suffering ingress?
