Re: Rear window problem

The following day i discovered a small triangular piece of dense rubber foam trapped between the driver's door and the sill. When I phoned the dealer they didn't seem surprised. "they don't fit them at the factory any more, so I wouldn't worry about it" was their response.
fix?
I had the same piece of rubber drop down a while back. My dealer said it was quite common and I didn't need to worry about it. He said something about it being used to help line up the body panels during manufacture and that it was superfluous afterwards. So I just threw it in the bin.

Global Locking

Had the first problem since my Car was new in May 2010.I locked the Car using the fob and 10 minutes later the sunroof and all windows had opened fully which is not good in January.Key fob was not in my pocket when this happened and exactly the same thing happened the next day so I got in touch with my Dealer. They advised cancelling the global locking and unlocking feature and the problem has not re-occurred since. My car is now booked in for a day next week for the KO61 service and software upgrade which hopefully will rectify the window and roof problem, and I am advised will cure the intermitent problem of the rear windows sometimes having a mind of their own and shooting up and down several times before resting at the top of the travel.
A minor complaint really on what has been a trouble free car in 10850 miles.

With the engine on, from the driver's seat, lower all 4 windows fully using switches on drivers door. Then raise them all again. When raised fully and switches let go, try raise them all again further using the same switches. This resets the global closing for windows.
Worked for me too, thanks.

As of today the left rear window fails to auto up. I used the global open, though that may be coincidence. Cannot re-set using the method in the Owner's Handbook. Dealer says could be the switch pack or a software issue. Hmmm, just bought out the lease today, coincidence? The lady is now going to pout a bit? Who knows?

Read the handbook again and used the correct "restore" procedure and the window now works as designed. The question is why did it stop working?

Global Opening

Can anyone help me with this.

When I try to use the global opening it wont work, i have been into the vehicle setting menu and when I click for global opening to be turned ON it swaps back to OFF after a few seconds.

I have tried re setting the opening and closing by lowering the windows and then winding them all the way up but it still wont let me select global opening to ON.

any information would be appreciated.

Key Fob Problems

Has anyone had problems with their key fobs operating the car windows / boot lid?
It has happened a few times to me over the past 3 months where I have left the car on the drive & come back out to find all the windows are down or the boot lid is up. I always leave the car locked with the windows up.
I know you can do this operation from the key fob inside the house, but the key fob was not in my pocket so I could not have pressed it by mistake.
Im guessing it’s the key fob but it might be a problem on the car side, I’m sure it won’t be an easy one to solve if I take it to the Jaguar dealer as it does not happen that often.

I had that problem once on my first XF (I had that car for two months before it was replaced due to a paintwork defect, for an identical model and spec which I took delivery of in November) when the boot lid opened itself, hitting the inside of my garage door. Fortunately there was no damage. I was mystified as I couldnt see how I could have touched the button on the remote.

Regards
Keith.

There is a known fault you describe. A new window controller is the fix. Mine went AWOL but mysteriously fixed itself when I reset the auto up function on the offending window. Auto up and auto down are independent. The auto up has to be calibrated by the car for safety of children and cretins.

Global Window Opening

The bin man has just knocked on my door to tell me that all of the windows on my car were open. The problem with that was that a few minutes earlier we were deluged with hailstones. I reckon my XF is already cool enough, but I was dismayed to find it full of ice.

The culprit is the global window opening function and the fact that the range of the key remote is sufficient to operate the windows from a significant distance. If the unlock button is inadvertently pressed for long enough (key, coins and other stuff in pocket, crouching down tightens the trousers [oo-err missus!], button is pressed) the car is unlocked and the windows are opened.

Why this can't work like keyless entry, requiring the key to be in close proximity to the car, I don't know. Anyway, be warned - the same could happen to you.

Global opening is now switched off.

Based on your experience "jif101" I have noe disabled global opening and closing.

My global open works from the key fob but global closing doesn't. GC only works holding the button in on the driver's outside door handle (and that's what the manual states, too).

I was happily driving home the other night when all of a sudden the driver's window decided to open itself and I couldn't get it to close :(
As it was raining (odd that in Britain :-?), this was a bit of an issue. It then went a bit loopy and would close but bounce back open (as reported in this forum), but then it wouldn't move at all. After a bit of a panic, I tried the global closing and it worked (same as jagular....great minds..) The window stayed closed. Straight home and onto the forum and after reading about similar issues (a la I'm_Brian) tried the re-set proceedure but nothing. My hope was that it was either the software or regulator and promplty booked it into my dealer. I've just got back and sadly it was neither. It was actually just the motor (C2Z 17883 MOTOR RH). Slightly dented wallet but thankfully my dealer had stock and replaced it there and then.

sorry for the long reply. I had the same problem when I got my XF, and noticed that after trying to close the drivers windows automatically whilst pulling away from the seven crossing tolls, that i had to shut the window my self. And i then noticed the next morning that the global opening is not working. so after talking to jag, they said that if there is a window 'playing up' then the global will not necessarily work. hope this helps, may be you need to check all your windows not just from the drivers controls, but all the window controls.
Sorry for the post if you have already fixed it.

Sadly, it looks like window motor no. 2 has now gone, this time the passenger front >>> along with the rear passenger lock. I only found this out as my son tried to open the door after I had locked it and moved (around 100 feet) away from the car.........I will say that the alarms works :(
Booked in on Monday to cost these plus the complete loss of DAB. I estimate a quote of circa ÂŁ800 to ÂŁ900. We'll see.
Since the car left it's warranty and if the ÂŁ800-900 is correct I'll be in for ÂŁ300+ per month in repair bills.
I am completely devastated

Well. The bill for this work is in.

Just shy of ÂŁ600 for rear drivers side lock, passneger widow motor and reprogramme of the touch screen (due to corrupt files) plus 2 new tyres from the local "expert" tyre fitters who have managed to chip paint on both previously perfect wheels.
So ÂŁ1000 for the day...............and damaged wheels

This just never ends. :cry::cry::cry::cry:

i would say that my drivers door window has had a tantrum around 50 times now in the 4 years i have had her. there seems to no logical reason for it, most of the time it corrects itself after a day or so but sometimes needs attention. today it would not close until i attempted to close 3 times and only on the third attempt would it close, i experimented with this for a while and every time - only on the third attempt would it close. now what possible reason could there be for this. i am not hoping or expecting an answer, just making a comment. it a constant reminder how complex the car is. just like a woman !

I have similar problem from time to time with random re-opening normally when opening the driver's window for the first time in the morning. I put it down to not touching the switch properly. Strange - must pay more attention in case there is a fault.

Passenger side front window refuses to open. The car only had its service on Thursday and this was the first time I had tried it since. The motor makes a noise and the window appears to shift a tiny fraction but then nothing. The various window reset procedures in the manual don't make anything further happen either. Anyone else experienced this and have a fix. Looks like the dealer may now have 2 jobs to do in the last month of my warranty (the other is replacing the windscreen because of failed heating elements)!

Window started working today - no idea what was going on on Sunday and Monday - it certainly wasn't cold enough for it to have frozen. Will definitely be buying an extended warranty from somewhere at the end of this month, though!
