The signal it was sending was "please will someone just bloody clean me"

 

What do you use to clean it out. I mean would MAF cleaner actually dissolve that gunk? I dont think it can on its own ? Did you carfully pick out the gunk?

 

brake cleaner in my case, you can pick it out, but do not scrape the bottom as you might damage sensor.

 

It's a bit annoying as the flat metal sensor plate inside is the main bit you want to be able to rub clean, but is also the main bit you can't touch!

Still, a good spray out has to help

There are so many very simple jobs that can be done on XF's Throttle body is a great one . Also the only way you can see if its sticking .

electrical contact cleaner? Is Maf cleaner different?

 

Yeah, contact cleaner will do. MAF just need cleaning with something that leaves no residue ie high alcohol content.

I know!. The gunge was dry too and completely blocked. Car runs fine though getting regular 43 mpg. I'm expecting 50mpg when this is cleaned out.

 

Well I took my car for a drive for the first time since cleaning the MAP. I think a very slightly better throttle response. Something more noticeable is that i'm convinced the second turbo is kicking in earlier, but that surely can't be a thing (other than my imagination 😆).

Oh also at idle on the OBD my engine load is now lower from 23% pre-clean to 19% post-clean (same temp, idling time etc) 🤷‍♂️

 

Actually according to Grok (and CoPilot), I might not have been imagining the earlier turbo kick-in post-clean...

Buy MAF cleaner etc from ebay .Its super cheap and bloody useful to have . 3 can deals tend to be the best .

Personally, sensors, I spend a bit more money on and buy something branded and NOT from ebay. You just simply can't trust the source on ebay.

I have bought sensors ftom ebay before, for wife's Q7....yes it was the cheapest option....but it simply did not work. I think it was the air quality sensor.

Go cheap, pay twice!

cheap sensors are. a"No no" £3.50 's worth of cleaner will have it looking as good as new . Much safer

Gave it a good clean with this. Engine seems to be more smooth and responsive.

I've got the same product coming today to do the MAFs with; used all of what i had left previously blasting the hell out of my MAP!

 

Any alcohol based spray will suffice 👍

Very pleased that when I inspected my one it was super clean. The gasket looks fresh as does the sensor so was probably replaced at some point.
