Its a Damper for vibration. Stops unwanted Diff vibration from destroying propshaft 😲

 

I'm disappointed - I thought it was the smoke canister that you use after passing BMWs.

The OP has a 3.0d with one fitted, my 3.0d didn't have one fitted???

Is it a thing they fit if under bench testing the car there is vibration noted? So they fit one? Who knows. It is a replaceable part as they are readily available as a part. Retailing OEM @£70.

Had it on 2012 xfs, but it's not there on 2016 xfs...
