Hi, can anyone confirm what the impedance on the subwoofer should be in a premium system? I’m measuring 2 ohms per voice coil. My sub seems to be dead otherwise so I’m trying to rule an amplifier fault. I’m guessing if the amp was faulty none of the other speakers would work, right?

A few weeks ago, I measured the impedance and got 2 ohms on both channels.
I tried to do a bit of research and it turned out that on the meridian system, the sub is 2 ohms anyway. In fact, all the system was 2 ohms except for the tweeters.
Got me thinking a bit and then I found a post where someone had actually replaced theirs with an 8” dual coil with a 2 ohm sub.
I bit the bullet and bought a sub (even though the sub was reading 2 ohms, the impedance should have apparently been higher, at around 3 ohms).
I took the sub out today and somehow, between me drying out and refitting it, it’s lost the dust cap and looks pretty torn at the coil.
To fit the new sub, the enclosure needs a bit of modification (trimming some locating plastic to make if fit flush).
The new 8” sub is ever so slightly smaller than the original hole, but hopefully I can overcome that with some makeshift gaskets.
Will post the results.

Ok. So it’s not the best looking install but it works pretty good. Haven’t really put it through it’s paces (does it need running in or is that a myth?), but there’s a nice bass note sound. Could do with a bit of sound deadening as there is a bit of a rattle from the spare wheel kit but will look into that later. Oh, and I used some draught excluder tape as a makeshift gasket for now...
