Finally took the car in last night to have a new sill fitted (my fault) plus new fuel flap assy the chrome selena inserts and the door\wing seal replaced, these are all under warranty, and have just realised I forgot to mention the 'peeling' keyfob  oh well!

Re: At last

Just phone them in the morning :)
I didn't realise I had a warranty claim relating to the key fob until I was handed a new one, after calling in to Jaguar Watford to have the battery replaced and expecting to have to buy one. Not a bit, I was told that the battery was a warranty claim, as was the peeling fob which I was unaware of, and they replaced both, there a then :)

Cr@p Chrome on Smart Key

Anyone else have the chrome on the Smart Key flaking and coming off? I have tried search on the forum and can't find other mentions of this.

Seems such a shame that on a generally impressive car that this item tends to look and feel so cheap and nasty. Perhaps it's better if the Smart Key just stays in my pocket.

I agree, Best plan in my view is to leave the key in your pocket, just make sure it is not rubbing against coins and so on :)

As Pekem says, just ask dealer to replace under warranty. Had my previous XF key Fob chrome sides replaced under warranty, not had any problems with current fobs

Anyone experienced this before? A small patch of the nice smooth plastic coating just fell of one of my fobs. I intend to claim under the warranty as these puppies are usually very expensive these days.

key/fob chrome

One thing I hated on the used cars I looked at was the state of the chrome on the fobs. I just found you can replace it. Its of no use to me atm and is likely common knowledge on here. If not, try an online auction site, they are under a fiver a pair. Bargain if yours are looking tired!

I purchased for my previous car - Lexus GS, a lighter wallet to protect the smart key, as that item was made out of special extra easy mark plastic!

Fortunately, the XF's smart key also fits, obviously providing protection from the inevitable scratches it would otherwise pick up in your pocket. this probably sounds more than a little obsessive, but I have to say it does look very smart - its a black leather wallet by Dupont. All it needs is a Jaguar badge to replace the Dupont 'D' emblem and it could be an official Jaguar accesory!

I hate to see damage, scratches, chips etc. I like things to be nice! I keep my fob in my small pocket on my jeans that has never previously had a use. Nothing else in there to rub against it :) with keyless entry and go I never have to get the fob out, it should be as good as new for ever that way.

I've had a couple of issues, but all resolved very quickly at the dealership, although my problems wasn't peeling chrome. After I had been in for service a while ago, I noticed a charge for battery replacement for the fob. Didn't think much of it at the time, but a couple of weeks later I had a warning message come on, informing me that the battery on the key was low. Took it in and told them I'd just been charged and they apologised and did it FOC. A few months later I took the car back in for getting new chrome bonnet strakes, and chrome side vents. I was handed a brand new fob for some reason, but was told it was a warranty job. Happy days
