Jaguar changed the specification of oil for my XF to 0w 20 a few years ago, I think originally it was 5w 20. I have had no issues with oil consumption at all. I have never had to top it up and the level indicator always shows full.

Your handbook will tell you what oil you should use. May also be printed on the oil filler cap.

There is only two ways that your engine is 'using' oil. Either you have a leak or your engine is worn and you are burning oil. Piston rings or valve stem seals?

What model and year and engine do you have? 3.0v6 petrol Supercharged?

Right okay. Well when the engine first came out Jaguar specified 5w 20, but later changed the spec to 0w 20. I would go with what Jaguar say personally. They must have their reasons for changing the specification.

We share the same engine block, but two of your cylinders are blocked off. I use 0w 20 and have never had to top up

You are welcome my friend 😀

The oil specification change happened at the same time the cam chain was increased in depth from about 6mm to 8mm. My guess is it is to dovwith the oiling of all the cam components when cold ie chain, followers, guides etc. So best to go with the 0w 20.
