There's a slot for the XF key in the lower right side of the dasboard. When you put your key in there is clicks into place. You need to push the key to release it. What is the purpose of this slot if you have keyless entry?

It's for cars without the keyless entry option. The slot takes a smart key which has to be docked in the starter control unit before the engine will start.

Can also be used if the battery is low in the keyfob the car will then be able to destect the transducer in the fob

That's not quite right. All XFs are keyless start, some are not keyless entry. The position of this slot would be ridiculous if you had to dock the fob every time you wanted to start the engine.

This slot is to recharge the fob, much the same as in an XK were this slot is in the centre console.

The dock is there for emergency use only. If you have to open the door with the blade it will insist that you dock the key so that it knows you have the authorisation to start the vehicle and havent just got lucky at getting in.

It does not recharge the fob and it is not required for those without keyless entry as they are all keyless start.

Anyone in any doubt RTFM on page 20!
