Hi,

I have an XF 2.2 with 105K miles on the clock and it has recently logged a couple of MOT advisories. At the front, "suspension arm ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated" and at the rear "suspension arm pin or bush worn". In both cases it seems not possible to just replace the trivial part that is worn, but the whole suspension arm is required to be replaced. The Jaguar parts are big money £300 per item - why does Jaguar do this? After market ones are maybe one third the price and so I am thinking of opting for these when I replace. Does anyone have any experience of aftermarket parts and whether they are dependable? Thanks in advance.

It’s not just Jaguar, it’s the same with Volvo. If you want to change the bush it’s the whole suspension arm which you swap with yours. Aftermarket parts will be ok but not normally the same quality.

tend to disagree regarding quality - they need to meet certain standards to be safely used as replacements. my jag specialist always offers choice between jag and aftermarket parts, and said they never fail prematurely etc. why pay i.e. £300 for part which should cost £100, but it's dearer because it has jag stamp on it. more likely jag part was made in same factory as aftermarket one!

Thanks, aftermarket it is then, I don't need much persuading.
