Hi Everyone,

I took delivery of my XF 3.0 in Hongkong last Oct and found the sound quality of the audio system (Jaguar 140watt) is not quite satisfactory so I asked my dealer for possibility to upgrade to the premium 320watt system. However, he came back after few weeks advising that it is quite complicated and expensive therefore not recommendable.

Since I just want better sound quality and don't need big power, is it possible to just replace the stock speakers. Can I do it myself? Any suggestions are welcome.

Here in the UK it is possible to consult Car Audio Specialists to discover the answer. I imagine that similar businesses are based in Hong Kong and I would start there. Also, it is the case; here at least, that few businesses are so busy that they would not welcome an enquiry.

Yes it can be done but you may find that you would also need to at least upgrade the speaker wire also. It is possible to upgrade to the 320 or B&W system but you would need to find a dealer willing to do so, some will say its complicated just because they dont want to do it.

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem here in Hongkong is that there is only one authorised dealer and they are not very helpful. They just tried to discourage me for doing that. The salesman did refer me to an audio shop but I found their prices are much higher than others.

I want to try some other shops but worry that they may damage the door panels when replacing the speakers. Am I over concerned? Is removal of door penals just simple job which most experts can do?

Pleased to hear.

Yeah the door panels will come off easy and they will have done this with loads of cars, just need to check they put them back properly so they dont squeak or rattle

Creig,

Thanks your advice. I've got my front door speakers replaced last Saturday which produce much better sound now and I'll get the back one replaced later after the first pair run in. The shop spent just less than an hour to do the job which was rather simple as you said. However, to my surprise, the stock speakers were really cheap stuff, not even with a brand name, which didn't match the car of this price level (around HK$ 760,000) at all.

Hi jaguarxf2008,
I'm glad I found you . . . I've been looking all over the net trying to find someone with the same experience. I've had my XF for 6 weeks now and regret not upping the audio spec. Thing is I truly believe that the head unit is good and the amp OK and I've been thinking all along that if I could upgrade the speakers I might just be able to get the better sound I'm after. You saying that the stcok speakers are unbranded is 'music to my ears'. (Interestingly the sound sounds much better through my iPod that the FM tuner). My dealer doesn't want to help (or make some extra money) and has told me that there are 'only four speakers' in the XF - Twits - I can hear the 4 tweeters myself! Anyway, can you help me a bit please . . .
a) what did you replace the stock speakers with and what size are they?
b) did you replace the tweeters?
c) did the whole door panel have to come off (or just the covers) - I don't want rattly doors if I have to take them off
d) did you replace the backs too - with what - the same as the fronts
e) are you happy with your mod.
Best regards,
JM

You may need to visit a specialist supplier for help, jaguarxf2008 appears to be away at present :(
