OK a bit alarmist as that is the price for the first year road tax for a SV8.

The full changes are:

Pretty nasty reading unless your a diesel owner. Nearly £1k on top of the price of a new car is shocking

The full table of the new rates:

Thanks for that XF'. Only a short while ago I commented to my wife that the BBC were probably being alarmist and your table demonstrates that to be so. I will be happy to pay the extra, more so, if it is not just a revenue raising exercise without any Eco benefits.

I agree Pekem.

If the main aim was to just to influence car choice why not make it revenue neutral? This scheme adds £1 billion to the treasury. They could have set it up so anything under 120g was free. As it stands there are very few cars available that get under 100g of co2.

Yes, I really do hope that people prepared to pay well over £50k for a car aren't going to whinge about the proposals.

The country has to be paid for, and its only to be expected that those of us who can afford a higher contribution to that should make one. Personally, I think that significantly higher rates of income tax should apply to the highest incomes too.

Sanctimonious rant-ette over!

Damn right, Greybloke. Isn't that what all sensible UK-based blokes are doing??
