Afternoon All,

New forum member here, and first time potential XF owner!

I have about £15k to spend and I am really stuck on which option to go for. On the one hand the money I have will get me a 2009/10 S Portfolio with about 60/ 70,000 miles.

I do about 20,000 miles a year so not sure about getting a car with too high a mileage as I will have to fork out for cam belt change the year after I purchase.

Alternatively do I go for a 100k + mile car which has already had the belt done? Would the additional miles have any detrimental affect on the car?

Or do I go for a newer 2.2 car?

Really stuck as there are so many options and trim levels!

Help/ thoughts/ advice would be appreciated.

many thanks.

Cambelt changes are no big deal.

The V6 is superior to the four in every way except fuel costs.

High mileage should not deter you, these are durable well made cars. Check the service history, not the odometer.

tough one this...whatever you will get, you won't be disappointed ;)

trim level - I would go with premium lux as starting point (all engines). personally would go for 3.0, they say that 2.2 (163 or 190bhp) is underpowered, but that would depend on your driving style (what you need) as mpg's are not that much better in 2.2 compared to 3.0. on the other hand, facelifted 2.2 will have 8 speed g/box and prefacelift has 6 gears.

cam belt is due ~112k so you would be ok for 2 years if 70k one bought. mileage doesn't have a big impact on XF's - they are bulletproof. getting my2009/2010 will include most of the small 2008 launch hick ups resolved, even if not, they are easy to diy fix (lights in overhead console or wire harness in boot lid potentially affecting rear camera or boot lock/unlock).

good luck hunting :)

Thanks Jagular. Any idea on cost for cam belt change? I've been told anything from £500 to £1,000!

If you can try and hold out for a 3.0 facelift. It also has the 8 speed auto box in it which by all accounts ist better suited to the V6 than the 2.2. The pre-facelift is also a great car (I test drove one before my facelift came up) the only downside is the higher mpg and as it would appear there are no longer any satnav updates available :( which if it's one of the things you need then it's a bit of a downer.

Trade, not dealer. Could probably have got one similar for less but I fell for it and wanted it immediately.......

I'd agree of course having the 3d V6 S Portfolio as well :) I had the earlier pre-facelift PL 3d V6 non-S and that was a lovely car but the Portfolio facelift S with the 8 speed is just better. Either way though you will be more than happy. Happy hunting :)

Def go for face lift if possible if you drop the S and go for the 3.0D you have more options. I have driven both and to be honest I didn't notice any difference, the main one being a high 5.9 second 0 to 60 instead of 6.7. I wanted the R Sport which didn't come with the 275 option but has more than enough power and they are cheaper tax wise lol!
The S would maybe the one to go for but if the funds are limited I would much prefer a 2012+ face lift 3.0D model to a pre face lift s model for similar cash.

Nice ones around on autotrader like this 41,000 ml late 63 plate http://eu.hlserve.com/Delivery/Delivery.aspx?hm_CID=70&hm_PN=SearchResultProductAd_Click&hm_evals=ZYvdBO7dTthV6i4pck7Fm5DOCUMOadL1+y2E9BIoaoW88ucG9dMOCXr/jsjsyHhj56JZmk8MX14JBE/8FKpbXdS8D3VN3wBAqUJyGBBLDTV6pSt/hVeIC6F08a65jJQ033P+DLcl+Ej9no1a7Up2nwFYJ4huCwquSh1zA32VX7xmZ14kDTFXpvRbNVF+URneCXBY7BNNkTJx7clLXUKDfr3rg44ymwy43yc9ygaTldvULjRL8nq6XvuFDtkq1ip6DA+lJF+W8/B85UUR3sl521ZIAk5gTvO9QQ34OxgBBrR084uKN2YdOt4+4a2DM/pUmm9dkTPfH72KUc5D7CwyNjMluz9TYbLSTIBn5nbEoQ0+E0uuor0iOJoMVa1p9965KuPuJjyYvSmZZhM7jAqtHc20L2zSmNgBIyKv6SyzzVT9jJozyZOzrUbXuqr9KXB8WqK4Tao+UO7ui3d3E5kO5ehUBkpa3qDRKqsU2bNx4z7FCVqvj91WvTtJJIZbQqT7JP824Cvyc5a+Afh/s1J1MYsxr+HsTDGNQvk5MypVmNNnFcHNUO7cnAX/3k40uVhDYzYHL1dLKR+xIc2vb6jr/sk/Bf0aYYJDCNi8RnxfdN/W2kUxx75nmrnKtE9LuPCy6Sy97nau8TjE5KZTp7ohhFWOVzk6nhm2QbgQ7GHqVyFvlLSFlqH22wD8rMACdadvhQYEPQWbZoiwHrOBuqhtwhm9M0Suc9QHWFYf0awRjLZWOL3XiZIqQxVWpERFDhib24Eu425fAI3qTux+304iAO33Xhl/YtRUfdXi5+vXWAc2dfV8Hn5L6SRFGVXzloOGMx8/e8LJiKyikHmAvl94bX7FbX7HgCD2NZKtFq4mBeU2f2hhfKYI9Utfs01/LHG0&hmClckThru=www.autotrader.co.uk/hlbtm?advert=201611159790611&search-target=usedcars&make=JAGUAR&radius=1500&year-to=2013&sort=price-asc&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&advertising-location=at_cars&minimum-badge-engine-size=3.0&body-type=Saloon&postcode=b487rg&year-from=2011&model=XF&maximum-badge-engine-size=3.0&page=3&advert-type=ymal&dealer-id=2445529
