Hi All,

Had my 2015 (x260) XF for about 4k miles and love the car. Unfortunately ownership hasn't been without issue. Engine light has been on for a good while, DTC called is P049B, see link below. The engine has been running smoothly with no restricted performance or anything else untoward. I can't say conclusively if fuel economy is affected.

P049B Exhaust Gas Recirculation B Flow Insufficient Detected (obd-codes.com)

Wondering if anyone else has had experience with this code? I've used a few fuel additives but to no avail. Has anyone used the EGR cleaner spray that you spray into the intake?
Recently I have had an intermittently DTC P20FE being displayed, no as much info on this one online but related to the SRC, or DEF system, im not sure if its related to the more enduring fault code or independent from it.
P20FE - Ford Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Definition, Causes and Diagnosis (dtcdecode.com)

To make matters a bit more difficult I've had a few mechanics who are unwilling to look at it past this diagnostics! Any help appreciated or any schematics of exhaust/aftertreatment for this engine? If I have to be directive to a mechanic should I just take the hit with a complete EGR valve and see if it is the culprit?

Thanks

Hi Mark,
I have looked at the codes related to insufficient B flow given for my 2.7 D (P040121)
It lists the following possible causes:
  1. EGR control deviation below minimum threshold
  2. Engine cooling system fault
  3. EGR valve control system fault
  4. Check correct thermostat is installed. if not, suspect the EGR actuators, check and install new actuators as required.
Other related codes are:
(P040721 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit Low )
( P040822 2 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit High)
They all point to the EGR valve. Requiring test and replace as necessary.
Don't know if helps. A specialist with the right diagnostic tools should be able to run diagnostics and pinpoint the fault hopefully. (y)
