Hi I bought an Xf 3.0d v6 last month its a 2013 model when I try and check the oil level ,either cold or hot, and leaving for 10 mins to cool down I get the same thing saying “refer to handbook” I never get a reading. When I lifted the bonnet to check it manually when I undid the oil dipstick cover I noticed there wasn’t actually a dipstick connected to the cover, it was missing, surely this isn’t right is it ???

Yes it is. There is no dipstick.

When you check the oil reading, are you doing this when the engine is running or just when you power on the accessories (push the start button but not the brake pedal)? Also ensure you are on level ground.

The last. Just like with a dipstick. Engine off for a while. Level ground. Push the start button without touching the brake pedal to switch on ignition without starting the engine.

Here's the shortcut to checking the oil level!

Bonnet open, switch on ignition, scroll to oil level, if reads 'NOT AVAILABLE SEE HANDBOOK' tap the cruise cancel button twice!
