    Alternator

Hi I have a 64 plate xf s. It needs a new alternator. Is it best for original or aftermarket one. Both are exchange units. Big £££ difference. Tks

The wise voice in my head is saying (in order of prefference):
    1) New OEM
    2) New (Independant)
    3) Refurb OEM
    4) Refurb (Independant)

But of course, this could all change depending on price and warranty offered.

There is usually zero advantage to using OEM parts for common components (alternators, battery, brake pads, etc). Independent alternator of a decent brand should be fine.

I here what you're saying and don't disagree in principle. The problem is knowing what is a decent brand. At least with an OEM part, an inexperienced person will know what they're getting.
