There's a light on the center console above your head which has a passenger airbag light. I presume this is the one you're refering too. If the light comes on as you start the car and then goes out again after a few seconds, everything is normal, this is the car doing a bulb test. If the light remains on all the time the engine is running then I say you have a problem.
I've just had a quick look through the manual online and can't see anything to indicate that the passenger airbag can be turned off/on.

Cleared all faults. Noticed plastic box at front of engine has a cable tie holding it and also sealer. Not sure what it is but when revving the engine can hear air and it splits. I've attached a pic off the internet.
