    'J' Blade LED intermittent failure

The LED day time running lights on my XF are behaving funny. I have my lights set to auto and when I start the car the LED J blade lights don't come on until you start moving but of late the passenger side one has not been coming on at all. Thing is when the car is parked and you unlock it both lights work normal, they light up bright then dim. Looks like another trip to the dealers (that's 5 now in two months) but just wondered if anyone had any similar issues.
    Thanks

I was watching mine (also on auto) and they come on when you unlock the car (like you described) ... and they remain on. The one thing I noticed (by reflection in the car in front of me) is that when you indicate, the LED´s turn off when the indicator is flashing - but come back on when the indicator is turned off. ---- But that´s only my observation ... the one who should know is Jasper. Mabe we get to hear from him.

That is normal behaviour - if the J did not extinguish/dim, oncoming traffic may struggle to see the indicator. They even have this feature fitted to Audi's, though I have no idea why, as the indicator stalk has apparently been disconnected...

Hi OLJ1M, thanks .. but I thought it was normal
I was just trying to give an indication to K44ent why the LED on one side of the car might be off.
What happens if you leave the indicator on and turn the engine off. Does the LED on that side after unlocking and it´s initial "flash" stay on?
Or ... has the passanger side LED got stuck in the "indicator on" mode even thought the indicator has been turned off already.

Ah... okay - sorry I misunderstood!

Two secs, I'll go try... nope, behaves as normal (full then dim and on engine start, stays dim, indicator on and lights on).

Ahh then .. funny behaviour of his lights K44ent is describing. What puzzles me is that as he describes the blades come on when opening (the flash). But when starting they only come on when moving. So they must have turned off somewhere inbetween. I have to admit that I have not checked if mine do. But I always thought they remain on.

The only time I can get 'the flash' followed by them coming on when I start driving, is if the lights are in 'Off' mode - I wonder if this is a stalk issue?

Thanks for the replies, some times they appear to work normal. According to Jaguar they come on bright when drive is selected. So a typical start up sequence would be unlock car - J blades light up bright then dim, start car, J blades go off or stay dim ( not sure), select drive and they come on bright (this seems to vary, some times you need to be moving before they go bright). I know this to be correct because I watched them come on/ go bright in a window reflection as I drove off yesterday. I then parked up but when I returned to the car and drove off only the drivers side light came on, I'm not sure if it came on when I unlocked as I just got in the car without checking.

Thanks for the info K44ent ... interesting that they are supposed to become bright again when D is selected (or drive) ... I have to admit that from inside the car I have never really watched that, could only see when I got reflection from the car in front - and then of course I was in D. - but I will be trying to check that out now.

Morning K44ent, the other week when opening the car one of my blades failed to come on, I faffed about locking and unlocking but no change but from what I recall when I started the engine it then came on (or certainly was on when I got home) Haven't had this since but continue to monitor.
