Hi all I have driven Discovery's for the past 18 years but I am now in the position of all my kids have grown up and 90% of the time its just me in the car. I still need an estate so my dog can get in and I quite often travel from Lancs to Somerset. What I need to know is are there any common faults I need to look for, which is the better engine 3.0 or 2.2 is there a list of comfort models so I know what I'm looking at, and any other information you can tell me.

Thanks in advance Ste

Assuming your choice is between the diesel versions of the engines, there seems to be a general consensus in favour of the 3.0, although I should admit to not having had the opportunity to drive an XF with the 2.2.
Fuel economy is pretty good with the 3.0, and I regularly reach 50+ mpg on long trips at high speed. (French and Spanish motorways with cruise control set at 140 and 130 kmh).
