There is usually zero advantage to using OEM parts for common components (alternators, battery, brake pads, etc). Independent alternator of a decent brand should be fine.
I here what you're saying and don't disagree in principle. The problem is knowing what is a decent brand. At least with an OEM part, an inexperienced person will know what they're getting.
